THE FIRST YEAR: Creative practice and motherhood

PhD candidate Anne-Marie Jean, painter and lecturer at National Art School Rachel Fairfax, multi-media artist and Fullbright Scholar Janna van Hasselt and ANU alumni and painter Dionisia Salas are all practicing artists who in 2016 are mothers for the first time.
The exhibition explores the parameters of creative practice in the context of new motherhood. Issues of time, energy, identity, relationships, space, money, responsibility, creativity are grappled with and impact the resulting bodies of work. This exhibition will facilitate and illuminate the ongoing development of creative practice by each individual artist and create support, motivation, direction and collegial dialogue.
